Collecting Japan's Digital Station Stamps by Phone: EkiTag Taps and TRAIN TRIP GPS

Besides physical station stamps, you can now collect digital station and sightseeing stamps on your phone in Japan. An Openholidays article covers two methods. EkiTag is an app using NFC: find the "エキタグ" sticker or stand at a supported station or sightseeing spot, tap "Touch" in the app and touch your phone to the centre of the marker; collected stamps can be added to photos. TRAIN TRIP is a web version: open railway150.jp, turn on GPS and collect at designated JR stations or points along the line. The article says TRAIN TRIP marks the 150th railway anniversary and offers over 1,000 commemorative stamps, with some points collectable as trains pass. Stamp types include classic station designs, creature guides, railway jobs and limited-time themes such as station soba. Check the official map first, and save limited-time stamps with screenshots.
