Chinese Mainland Film Panorama 2026: "My Dear Liar" at Hong Kong Film Archive
Chinese Mainland Film Panorama 2026 presents "My Dear Liar", screening on 10 October (Saturday) at 3pm at the Hong Kong Film Archive (Cinema). Tickets are HK$75.
The 2019 film is directed and co-written by Shen Ao, starring Da Peng, Liu Yan and Zhang Zixian. It runs 112 minutes in Putonghua and Chongqing dialect with Chinese and English subtitles. Built around a faked-death insurance scam, it mixes livestreaming culture, insurance fraud and hard-up lives into a crime comedy, with Chongqing dialect and the mountain city's spaces adding to the black humour.
It won Best Directorial Debut at the 33rd Golden Rooster Awards, the Golden Deer Award for Best Debut at the 15th Changchun Film Festival, and a Golden Lotus Best Actress award at the 11th Macau International Movie Festival. Check current ticketing arrangements if you plan to go.
