Chinese Mainland Film Panorama 2026: "My Dear Liar" screens 23 Oct at Space Museum

The Chinese Mainland Film Panorama 2026 brings "My Dear Liar" to the Hong Kong Space Museum Lecture Hall on 23 October (Fri) at 7:30pm. Tickets are HK$75.

Directed and co-written by Shen Ao, the 2019 film stars Da Peng, Liu Yan and Zhang Zixian. It runs 112 minutes in Putonghua and Chongqing dialect with Chinese and English subtitles. Its absurd "kill the wife for insurance money" premise weaves livestreaming culture, insurance fraud and hardscrabble lives into a crime comedy, with Chongqing dialect and mountain-city spaces grounding its small-time characters.

It won Best Directorial Debut at the 33rd Golden Rooster Awards, the Golden Deer Award for Best Debut at the 15th Changchun Film Festival, and Best Actress at the 11th Macau International Movie Festival.
