Free Cantonese arts night in North District: a children's Cantonese opera talk, then Naamyam storytelling of Journey to the North

On Saturday 7 November 2026, Luen Wo Hui Community Hall (Hall) hosts a free Cantonese arts evening. From 19:00 to 20:00, the talk "Weaving Children's Cantonese Opera Dreams" features Fong Suet-ying, president of the Sing Fai Cantonese Opera Promotion Association, discussing the development of children's Cantonese opera in Hong Kong, with performances and demonstrations by 30 children aged four or above. From 20:30 to 21:30, Storytelling Under Banyan Tree presents the new naamyam theatre piece Journey to the North, in which Tang Sanzang, after fetching the scriptures, is sent by Guanyin to North District to help its people. Both sessions are free and conducted in Cantonese, part of the Chinese Culture promotion series. For registration and seating arrangements, contact the organiser Ng Yan Jyut on 5523 0815.

Editor’s noteFree entry and two sessions in one evening, a talk plus naamyam theatre — worth noting if you want a taste of Cantonese opera and storytelling; ask the organiser about registration and seating.
