Cattle Depot in To Kwa Wan: A Half-Day Art Village Stroll

To Kwa Wan's Cattle Depot is more than old blocks and garages. The former Ma Tau Kok Animal Quarantine Depot, built in 1908, served as a slaughterhouse and quarantine centre until mid-1999, and was graded a Grade II historic building in 2009. The front site became Cattle Depot Artist Village in 2001, rehousing artists from Oil Street; the rear became Cattle Depot Art Park in 2019. Expect brick-and-tile architecture, old water troughs and cattle rings, plus occasional exhibitions and workshops. The park keeps feeding troughs and drinking pools, with metal animal silhouettes and a rain shelter echoing the old double-tile roof.
