A Half-Day Stroll at Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens

The Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens sits on Albany Road in Central. Construction began in 1860 and the Gardens opened fully to the public in 1871. Covering 5.6 hectares, the eastern "Old Garden" holds a children's playground, aviaries, a conservatory and a fountain terrace garden, while the western "New Garden" is mainly home to mammals and reptiles. A heritage trail lets you follow the Gardens' story. The site was once Government House, and the Governor also served as Commander-in-Chief, locally nicknamed "兵頭", hence the Gardens' old nickname.
