Law Uk Folk Museum: A 200-Year-Old Hakka Village House in Chai Wan

Law Uk Folk Museum sits on Kut Shing Street in Chai Wan. It was originally a Hakka village house over 200 years old, named after its former occupants, the Law family. It is a typical three-bay, two-corridor Hakka dwelling: a central hall, a light well between the hall and the entrance, with rooms, a kitchen and a store on either side, plus an open ground called a “wo ping” once used for drying grain, laundry and gatherings. Described as Chai Wan’s last surviving traditional Hakka dwelling, it was declared a monument in 1989 and later restored as a folk museum showing rural furniture and traditional farm tools.
