Stanley Plaza and Murray House: A Seafront Stroll with a Historic Building

In the Southern District, Stanley Plaza and Murray House make a natural pairing. Stanley Plaza sits on Stanley's Carmel Road and includes a large shopping centre plus an open plaza linking to the waterfront promenade. Next to it is Murray House, originally built in 1846 on the site of today's Bank of China Tower in Central, in Victorian style, once used as a British military barracks and government offices. When demolished in 1982, over 3,000 components were numbered and stored, then reassembled at Stanley Plaza in 1998. Some parts, such as the original ventilation chimneys, were lost, but the building largely keeps its original look and remains a Stanley landmark.
