Beneath it, at the junction of Canal Road West and Hennessy Road, sits a well-known Hong Kong spot for "beating the petty person", with a cluster of stalls. According to the listing, this folk custom is believed to drive away bad luck and turn one's fortune around. Stallholders usually ask for your name and purpose, write it on a "petty person paper", place it on a brick and strike it with an old shoe while chanting. At Jingzhe, some also "worship the white tiger", smearing pork on a paper tiger's mouth to seal it and reduce gossip. The scene is especially lively around Jingzhe in March.
