A Red-Brick Landmark on Battery Path: the Former French Mission Building

Central has more than one red-brick landmark. The Former French Mission Building on Battery Path was first built in 1842, extended in 1860 and altered in 1917. Built of red brick and granite in Edwardian neoclassical style, it has three storeys plus a basement and a small domed chapel at its northwest corner, and was declared a monument in 1989.

It has served as a government residence, consulate, district court, Supreme Court and, from 1997 to 2015, the Court of Final Appeal. It was later included in the Legal Hub, and legal organisations moved in from mid-2020 after renovation.

It is a Central and Western District spot. Check opening information before you go, and use the Hong Kong eMobility site to plan transport.
