Yuk Hui Temple, Wan Chai: An 1863 Built-heritage Pak Tai Temple on Lung On Street

Yuk Hui Temple in Wan Chai, also known as Pak Tai Temple, stands on Lung On Street and is dedicated to Pak Tai. It was completed in 1863, in the second year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing dynasty, and was listed as a monument in 2019. The main building is a two-hall, three-bay structure with a incense pavilion in the middle and side halls on both sides. The main ridge and墀頭 carry fine Shiwan ceramic figures, and the bronze Pak Tai statue in the incense pavilion was cast in 1603, the 31st year of the Wanli reign of the Ming dynasty. Pak Tai is also called Zhenwu Dadi and Xuantian Shangdi; folk tradition holds that worship can bring longevity, calm floods and protect boats, so many worshippers visit on Pak Tai's birthday, the third day of the third lunar month.
