HKBU and Academic Community Hall: A Kowloon Tong Campus Landmark

Hong Kong Baptist University sits on Waterloo Road in Kowloon Tong. Founded in 1956 as Hong Kong Baptist College, it gained university status in 1994. Its Academic Community Hall, formerly the Academic Community Hall for tertiary institutions, opened in 1978. At a time when Hong Kong had few performance venues, it became a popular stage, and many international and local performers and groups appeared there. The building has a distinctive design, with a broad front staircase as its signature.
