Choose one main venue

Unexpected taxi trips and meal stops can cost more than museum admission. Choose one venue around your companions’ interests and give it at least two hours. Each option below works on its own. These are normal opening arrangements; check holiday exceptions and temporary changes before leaving.

Plan A: an unhurried three-hour art visit

Approach 10 Salisbury Road from East Tsim Sha Tsui Exit J or Tsim Sha Tsui Exit E. Allow for outdoor sections after the station. With a stroller or wheelchair, check the station map for lifts before choosing an exit; the shortest stair route may not suit you.

Arrive at 13:00 and spend fifteen minutes choosing two exhibitions. Visit the first until 14:00, pause, then explore the second from 14:15 to 15:00. Each person picks one work to revisit and explains whether colour, material or story caught their attention. Return together and compare what you noticed.

After 15:00, decide between another display and a meal according to energy and rain. For young children, shorten each session to twenty or thirty minutes and try a colour-finding game. Treat a waterfront walk as a weather-dependent extra rather than part of the indoor plan.

Plan B: two science themes over three to four hours

The MTR map lists Tsim Sha Tsui B2 and East Tsim Sha Tsui P2 for the Science Museum at 2 Science Museum Road. Expect street-level travel after the station. Set aside twenty to thirty minutes for exits, walking and finding the entrance; this is a planning allowance, not a measured walking time.

Start with the second-floor Living Tech Gallery from 13:00 to 14:00, choosing a question about transport, home life or food. Its official introduction describes interactive exhibits. Predict a result before trying something, then explain what surprised you. Pause at 14:00, choose a second open gallery, and finish around 15:15 before a meal.

This is our pick for primary-school children who enjoy trying things and taking turns, with adults joining in. Choose Plan A if your group prefers quiet looking. Start with sixty to ninety minutes for younger children. These are editorial suggestions, not age restrictions. Avoid promising a specific exhibit: maintenance and gallery availability can change.

Plan C: M+ for an ordinary Thursday

From Kowloon Station, approach M+ through ELEMENTS and Artist Square Bridge. Do not assume the approach is completely indoors; allow extra time for rain, strollers or a slower pace. Pick your entrance and route on the official visitor page before travelling so that finding the building does not consume your gallery time.

Arrive at 13:00, focus on one exhibition for an hour, pause, then choose another according to interest and leave around 16:00. Read the exhibition descriptions before buying: a higher ticket price makes more sense when the subject interests your group. Children could choose an object they would redesign rather than answer a quiz about every work.

M+ has free public spaces, including the Mediatheque; some screenings and events require separate tickets. A free-spaces visit is possible, but shorten the exhibition-led itinerary accordingly. Keep the Roof Garden out of the essential rainy-day route.

Budget: separate admission from your own allowances

These examples are for one adult paying standard admission. HK$80–130 for food and HK$20–40 for return urban public transport are GoJoy planning allowances, not restaurant quotes or route fares. Adjust them for your starting point and meal choice. Taxis, shopping, storage, separate events and extra exhibition charges are excluded.

• Science Museum permanent exhibitions are free for full-time students with valid proof; a student Octopus is not accepted as proof. Under-fours enter free with a ticketed adult. Special exhibitions may cost extra.
• For families, check each child’s ticket eligibility before multiplying the adult total. Food and transport still apply individually. Include the cost of a detour or time off if choosing Wednesday only to save admission.

Fallbacks for worsening rain, closures or tired companions

This guide is for ordinary rainy weather. HKMoA stays closed if a black rainstorm warning is already in force before opening, and has closure arrangements for typhoon signal 8 or above. Activities can be cancelled even when the building remains open. Check notices before leaving and before transferring.

• Ordinary Thursday: consider Plan C. Monday: check the Tsim Sha Tsui options first. Holiday exceptions can change the usual pattern.
• If rain worsens after entry, ask staff about the day’s arrangements and drop optional waterfront or cross-museum walks. If a venue closes or travel is disrupted, postpone instead of improvising an outdoor transfer.
• If queues or fatigue build, drop the second gallery and finish after one worthwhile experience. A useful measure of the afternoon is whether everyone has a discovery to share, rather than how many venues you entered.
